Westminster Shorter Catechism Q. 98  What is prayer?

Prayer is an offering up of our desires to God, for things agreeable to his will, in the name of Christ, with confession of our sins and thankful acknowledgment of his mercies. In other words, prayer is asking God for things which He has already _________ to _________.

  1. 101 What do we pray for in the first request?

In the first request (which is, Hallowed be your name) we pray that God may enable us and others to glorify him in all in which he makes himself known;[a] and that he would overrule all things for his own glory.[b]  [a]. Psalm 67:1-3;   Ps 99:3;   Ps 100:3-4 [b]. Rom 11:33-36;   Rev 4:11

In true prayer we are following out the chief purpose for which man is made – to _____  ____.

The word “Hallow” means ‘to regard as __________’

Hallowed by Thy Name =  Enable us to give to You the unique place which your nature and character _________ and demand.

There is an English word that summarizes this thought. It is “______________”

1). In order to reverence God we must first believe that He __________.

2) To reverence God we must believe the kind of God He is.

3) For reverence there must be a constant ___________ of God.

4)To all these things must be added ____________ and _____________ to God
